About Charleen

Do you ever wonder how professional songwriters craft melodies that stick? I began my path composing long before earning my BMus Composition at the University of Auckland.

My 10 years of experience includes releasing my own records and guiding independent artists through their creative process. I work with beginners, singer-songwriters, and gigging musicians to sharpen their craft.

You will learn to navigate rhyme schemes, meter, and complex motif development. My approach is direct and rooted in the practical realities of the industry.

I have spent years helping aspiring artists find their voice through melody writing and genre conventions. You can expect honest critiques on your work between our meetings. I support students in writing to a brief or developing original top-lines.

My focus remains on the mechanics that turn a simple thought into a polished song. It is rewarding to see your projects move from the initial spark to a finished master. I look forward to working at your home studio desk.

About the lesson

Usually, we start by looking at your current song structure mid-thought. We examine how to build dynamics across a song while maintaining interest. Melodic phrasing is often the difference between a demo and a hit. Rhythm is key.

You will master hook writing and thematic development through practical exercises. We will apply genre conventions to ensure your music lands where it needs to.

I provide specific feedback to keep your momentum going during the week. Working on these core skills makes the process much more enjoyable. It is great to see the final record come to life.
