About Anya
I am a guitar tutor with 11 years of experience, and I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Guitar Studies. Alongside teaching, I actively perform and compose, which keeps my approach fresh, creative, and connected to real-world musicianship. I believe the guitar is not just an instrument, but a lifelong skill and a powerful tool for self-expression. My teaching is centred on helping students develop both technical mastery and a personal connection to music. I work with complete beginners who are just starting their journey, as well as advanced musicians who are refining their craft. Each lesson is tailored to the individual, ensuring progress feels both rewarding and inspiring. I place strong emphasis on technique, theory, and creativity, blending structured exercises with opportunities for improvisation and exploration. This balance keeps students motivated while building the skills they need to play with confidence. Over the years, I have seen how learning guitar can spark joy, discipline, and a deep sense of accomplishment. I am committed to fostering a genuine love of learning in every student I teach. My teaching approach to guitar is built on a balance of technique, creativity, and personal expression. I start by helping students develop strong ergonomic habits so they can play with ease and avoid strain. From there, I introduce open chords, power chords, and finger exercises that build dexterity and control. These early skills give students a solid base to move into more advanced areas. I also place a strong focus on ear training, rhythm development, and music theory, including tools like Roman Numeral Chord Nomenclature. These skills help students not only play songs but also understand how music works. I believe this deeper knowledge unlocks creativity and confidence. For students who want to grow in specific areas, such as fingerstyle playing or leading in performance settings, I provide tailored guidance that helps them excel. I work step by step, making sure lessons are clear and encouraging at every stage. Each session is personalised to match the student’s goals, whether they want to perform on stage, compose their own music, or simply enjoy playing for themselves. I use a mix of structured exercises and practical application so students can apply what they learn right away. Most importantly, I aim to make guitar learning enjoyable and inspiring. With consistency and the right guidance, I help students see real progress while developing a lifelong passion for the instrument.
