About Hyein
Achieving success in mathematics is not about memorization; it is about building a logical foundation and developing the confidence to tackle any problem. As a dedicated Year 13 student graduating this November, I bring a fresh, highly relevant perspective to my teaching. Having recently navigated the current curriculum myself, I understand exactly where students tend to get stuck and how to guide them through those hurdles smoothly.
Academic Excellence
- I hold an official NCEA Excellence Endorsement in Mathematics, proving my complete mastery of the subject matter and deep understanding of what examiners look for.
Proven Track Record
- I have extensive experience tutoring junior high school students, successfully helping them demystify complex topics, improve their test scores, and build long-term academic confidence.
Professional Standards
- I approach every lesson with thorough preparation, clear communication, and an encouraging, patient attitude tailored to the unique learning pace of each student.
Whether your child needs to master fundamental primary concepts, navigate junior high school algebra, or prepare for senior NCEA exams, you can expect a structured, reliable, and professional learning environment designed to unlock their full potential.

My Techniques and Teaching Methodology
I believe math doesn't have to be intimidating when broken down into manageable pieces. Because I am currently completing my studies, I know exactly what it feels like to feel stuck on a difficult problem. My approach is patient, encouraging, and highly collaborative. I don't just lecture; we solve problems together, slowly transferring the confidence to you so you can do them independently. We use active recall and past exam questions to build real test-day confidence and eliminate exam anxiety.
Typical Length of a Lesson
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long. This is the perfect time to review homework, master a new concept, and practice problem-solving without getting overwhelmed. However, I can offer 90-minute sessions for junior high school students preparing for major exams.
My Qualifications and Experience
I am a top-achieving Year 13 student graduating this November. I hold an NCEA Excellence Endorsement in Mathematics, meaning I have thoroughly mastered the material and understand exactly what examiners look for in a top-tier answer. In addition to my strong academic record, I have proven experience tutoring junior high school students, helping them boost their confidence, improve their grades, and successfully transition into higher-level maths.
Who the Lessons Are For
I happily teach math to all ages and skill levels. Whether you are a primary student building foundational habits, a junior high school student trying to get ahead, or a senior student aiming for your own NCEA endorsements, I adapt my pacing to meet your exact needs. Lessons take place online or in person at North Shore libraries.
