About Alex

I am a soon-to-be 3rd year medical student at the University of Edinburgh. As an RUK applicant I obtained offers from all four medical schools I applied to (Bristol, Nottingham, Edinburgh and Manchester). I achieved a distinction in my first year of medical school (top decile). I got 3 A*s in my A levels (biology, chemistry and maths), and I got 9 9s and 1 8 in my GCSEs. I have 6 years of experience tutoring both online and in person in subject areas and ages ranging from primary school maths and English, SATs, science GCSEs and A level. From the ages of 16-17 I worked for a local tutoring company focusing on 11+ in group-settings. For medical school applications, I have experience doing interview and UCAT tutoring, and editing personal statements. I have also done "get into medicine" presentations for soon-to-be applicants at a local school in London on the topics of UCAT and interview. I also have experience working with students with various needs at various ages, including ADHD, autism, dyslexia and dyscalculia. This gives me valuable insight into how to tailor my sessions for people who may have different preferred ways to learn

About the lesson

I run a structured UCAT tutoring course, going through top tips and techniques for each of the 4 sections (VVR, DM, QR and SJT). I use real UCAT practice materials, alongside my own written questions for practice of certain techniques. I will typically do 5 or 6 online one hour sessions about twice a week. I am also happy to work and focus on the section you hope to get the most help with, and work through any practice questions you have found tough. I am also happy to advise on best revision technique for the UCAT as, personally, I managed a top 1% score over my summer holidays without missing out on holidays and work experience through effective structuring of my revision. I am also happy to discuss best technique skills for the test to focus on, as knowing the right keyboard shortcuts and flagging techniques can save you precious seconds.
