About Stacey

I have a Bachelor's degree in Italian from UCLA and lived in Venice, Italy for 2 years where I gained native-level speaking ability. Upon my begrudging return to the US, I worked at a Berlitz language school and then continued to do private tutoring for several years. After trying out several careers, I eventually returned to Italian and got my teaching credential at Cal State LA. At my high school I am a mentor to new teachers so I am familiar with adult learning theory as well as language learning pedagogy for adolescents and younger children. I have language books for all ages, and can incorporate those materials, online resources and my own extensive library of learning activities and manipulatives into our lessons. I will start by understanding what skills you want to focus on and will assess how you learn best and where we should start. Being a good language teacher is not necessarily about the teacher's skill in speaking the language but rather about knowing HOW people learn. I will make sure we spend our time efficiently and can provide suggestions for building your knowledge outside of our lesson time. I can give you as much or as little "homework" as you would like, whether it be a page in a workbook or a show on Netflix!

About the lesson

As a seasoned Italian teacher, having worked 12 years at the same high school, I know how to make language learning fun and engaging and have experience teaching ALL levels of Italian, from absolute beginner to advanced. I also lived in Italy so I like to incorporate culture into my lessons, perfect for someone preparing for travel or to live abroad. I have a large library of materials that I can use to create a curriculum tailored to your specific learning needs and desires. Everyone has a different learning style and I am an expert at reaching every learner at their level, with joy and no judgement. Language learning is meant to be fun!
