About Annie

I'm a teacher, writer, and actor in New York! I love Dungeons & Dragons and run a game at a private school downtown each Monday (anyone excited for the next season of Dimension 20????), and I love music and dance - I play the flute and spend my time hopping between jam sessions, folk music sings, and contra dances! I'm a Shakespeare specialist, and I love going to see crazy, radical retellings of old stories, so you might run into me at Fiasco's next show!

About the lesson

I'm a graduate of Yale with a double degree in Theater Studies and English, and I work as a substitute teacher specializing in Languages at Friends Seminary. My lesson plans are catered to the age and skill level of my tutees, and balance learning new skills, strengthening understanding of basic concepts, and assessing which skills to use for various assignments and problems. In Latin lessons, students will: - practice conjugation and declension charts until they become second nature - break down nouns, verbs, and adjectives into roots, stems, endings, and additional phonemes to understand why the Latin words are conjugated or declined in the way they are - strengthen English grammar skills to strengthen their translation skills - if ready, practice more advanced clauses with subjunctives, learn the sequence of tenses, and practice translation - if working with advanced translation, progress slowly, step by step, and learn to assess what constructions they are encountering in order to properly translate them In English and Writing tutoring, students will: - practice identifying English grammatical and rhetorical constructions, dependent on the student's writing and reading level - if writing at an upper-middle and high-school level, learn how to construct argumentative essays - strengthen their sensitivity to illogical progressions in said essays, pinpointing where their arguments are not properly supported - develop evidence-collecting skills, especially honing in on what text supports what arguments In Creative Writing and College Essay Writing Support, students will: - receive tailored prompts and assignments to draw them out and help them figure out what to write about - have their work copy-edited, proofread, and analyzed - learn to edit their own work In Resume Help, I will: - read your resume and write detailed notes on each point's relevance, efficacy, and wording - explain my edits and suggest rewrites - help you hone your own attentiveness to what is and is not working on your resume
