About Ilana

In May 2023, I graduated from Harvard with a degree in Social Studies and Philosophy. I was awarded and subsequently embarked upon a Fulbright scholarship in Peru, involving environmental legal policy research. Next fall, I will begin my studies at NYU Law. I am also an experienced early-career journalist, having previously worked for Inside Climate News as a full-time reporter and as a regular contributor to The Nation.

About the lesson

I'm a Fulbright Peru scholar, Harvard graduate with a degree in Social Studies and Philosophy, and incoming NYU Law student with significant tutoring experience and a career in journalism. I'm passionate about helping students from all backgrounds understand and employ the power of the written word to achieve academic and professional success. In the past, I have worked with numerous high school seniors through the college essay-writing and application process. I have also tutored high school and middle school students in general and English literature essay-writing, as well as in creative writing. I am also available to tutor students in journalism. My approach to tutoring is collaborative and conversational. I tailor my approach to every student and seek to understand how we can best work together to achieve their goals.

Ilana was an amazing mentor for my college application essays. In each online session, she helped me shape my essays into compelling narratives that stayed true to my personal aspirations. With her assistance, I was able to convey the messages in my essays with more precision and conciseness. She was always ready to listen to my ideas and concerns and gave encouraging, constructive feedback. I highly recommend Ilana for anyone looking to improve their writing.
