About Robin

I am a Brooklyn-based tutor, editor, writer, and current Steigner Fellow at Hunter College’s MFA in Poetry. I’ve been conducting manuscript consultations for writers and journalists since I graduated with my BA from Hampshire College in 2024. Having worked as an Admissions Intern and Writing Tutor at my own college, and having earned Hampshire’s Scribere Verum Est (Writing) Award through my application essay and a spot in Hunter’s highly selective MFA through my writing sample and statement, I know what the admission process looks like from every angle. I want to get YOU into YOUR dream school.

I have extensive experience working with peers and younger learners with ADHD and other executive functioning/learning differences. Accommodations are built into my services; they are the rule, not the exception. As an openly nonbinary-transgender educator, I proudly and urgently welcome queer and trans students and families into my services. My work is a safe space. As such, I offer a sliding scale for families. I am available to meet in-person, either in a reserved space in the Brooklyn Public Library or in a chosen cafe/study space across NYC, and remotely via Zoom or Google Workspace. pdfs of my Resume, CV, and personal/professional references are all available upon request.

About the lesson

I am offering tutoring services for middle, high school, and college English: reading comprehension, writing, test prep, and private school/college admissions essays—written by humans, for humans.

Here’s what a typical lesson looks like with me: You talk me through your assignment—a project for a novel, a research paper, a prompt for an admissions essay—and through guiding questions, verbal prompts, and close conversation, I help you brainstorm, draft, and type your words into focus. We might start with a blank page, or we might dive into your work-in-progress. (Send me your assigned materials beforehand!) So much of tutoring is conversation—I will help you find the words for your project and unlock the confidence I know you have. My lessons show you that reading, writing, and literature are really just great conversations someone wrote down—because that’s exactly what we’ll do!
