About Sanelisiwe

I’m a SACE-registered teacher with a Postgraduate Certificate in Education specialising in English, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of the Witwatersrand. I also hold a TEFL certificate, giving me additional grounding in English language teaching methodology — useful whether you’re a home language speaker looking to sharpen your skills or learning English as an additional language.

I’ve taught English to learners from primary through to high school, covering everything from reading comprehension and essay writing to grammar, vocabulary, and exam preparation. I know where students typically struggle — whether it’s structuring an argument, understanding a set text, or simply building confidence in their writing — and I tailor each lesson to meet that specific need. What drew me to teaching English is watching a student go from dreading writing to genuinely enjoying it once the fundamentals click. I’m patient, encouraging, and I’d rather spend extra time getting a concept right than rush ahead before a student is ready.

About the lesson

My lessons follow a clear structure: we start each session by reviewing what you already know and identifying exactly where the confusion lies, rather than assuming a one-size-fits-all starting point. From there, I break the topic down into manageable steps — whether that’s unpacking a set text, structuring an essay, or working through grammar and vocabulary — using examples and practice exercises to make it concrete. Every lesson ends with a quick recap and a small task to reinforce what we covered, so progress builds steadily rather than getting lost between sessions. What sets my approach apart is that I don’t just correct your writing — I teach you how to think through language and structure, so you can apply the same skills independently in tests, exams, and everyday writing, not just fix one essay at a time. With a TEFL certificate alongside my PGCE, I’m equally comfortable working with home language speakers looking to sharpen their skills and students learning English as an additional language.

Lessons can be conducted in English or isiZulu, depending on what makes you most comfortable learning. Whether you need help keeping up with schoolwork, catching up after falling behind, or pushing for top marks, I’ll tailor each session to what you specifically need.

Details

Sessions are 1 hour long. Online lessons are conducted through Superprof’s built-in video platform (Pencil Spaces); in-person lessons are available within a reasonable distance of Halfway Gardens, Midrand, with a small travel fee applicable for locations further out (discussed and agreed before booking).

Cancellations or reschedules require at least 24 hours’ notice; late cancellations or no-shows may be charged in full. Package rates (5-hour and 10-hour bundles) must be paid upfront and are valid for 3 months from the date of purchase.

The first 30 minutes of an initial lesson are free, so we can make sure it’s a good fit before committing to a full session or package.
