  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favorite instrument?

I developed a passion for music when I was around 8 years old. I remember being mesmerized by how music could change the atmosphere of a room and the mood of a person. My favorite instrument has always been the voice. It is raw, expressive, and unique to each person. Later, I also fell in love with the djembe, a hand drum with deep roots in West African music. Its rhythm speaks to something primal and spiritual, and I love how it brings people together in a heartbeat-driven connection.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Yes, soulful ballads and classic vocal performances are my go-to. I could listen endlessly to artists like Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Celine Dion, and Michael Jackson. Their voices carry so much emotion, range, and technical brilliance that even after the hundredth listen, I still feel chills. It’s music that speaks to the heart and uplifts the soul.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

One of the most challenging yet rewarding courses I offer is “Emotive Storytelling Through Voice.” It goes beyond pitch and rhythm and dives into phrasing, breath control, dynamics, and emotional delivery. I’ve studied how singers like Whitney Houston and Sam Cooke conveyed so much with their tone, timing, and soul. I've applied those techniques to help students connect more deeply with lyrics and an audience. Because the goal isn’t just to sing beautifully, but to move people.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I truly believe the human voice is the most complicated instrument to master. Unlike external instruments, your voice is invisible, internal, and deeply tied to your emotions, breath, mindset, and even your posture. There's no fretboard or keyboard to guide you, you just have to feel your way through pitch, tone, and expression. I love helping people unlock the full potential of their voice because it's such a personal journey. Watching someone gain confidence, control, and emotional connection through vocal training is incredibly rewarding.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

For me, success isn’t just about talent or recognition, it is about impact. I’m a person who feels joy in teaching others and making a real difference through music. I believe that when you pour love into what you do, people feel it. My keys to success are:

Teaching with heart, not just technique

Seeing music in everything, from a bird’s song to a child’s laughter

Lifting others up, because helping someone grow brings deep personal joy

And most of all, staying true to my purpose and using music as a way to connect, heal, and inspire
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

While I’m not someone who goes to bars, I’d love to imagine meeting these artists in a quiet, soulful setting, maybe a late-night music cafe or even a peaceful backstage lounge. My top three would be Michael Jackson, Sam Cooke, and Whitney Houston.

Michael Jackson, for his innovation, discipline, and unmatched ability to move people through performance.

Sam Cooke, because his voice carried the weight of both personal soul and social change.

Whitney Houston, for her vocal purity and the way she made every lyric feel personal.

Sitting down with them, even just for a conversation would be a masterclass in artistry, emotion, and legacy.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

My music school wasn’t a traditional classroom but it was the 10 years I spent performing as a stage singer. I learned the most not from textbooks, but from the faces in the crowd. One night, I was incredibly tense before a show, doubting every note before I even stepped on stage. But the moment I began to sing, something shifted. The audience responded with warmth, energy, and joy. That night, I realized one of the greatest lessons of all: the audience isn’t looking for perfection, they’re looking to feel something real. That became my best teacher, and it still guides how I perform and teach today.
