About Jing

I'm a Pure Mathematics and Computer Science undergraduate student at UCT who matriculated with a 99% in Mathematics and a 93% in Physical Science with the study method I've developed myself. With me, you can do the same, and I'm serious about that.

Before grade 11, I've never been the so-called good student: No matter how hard that I studied I could never get good marks, and in the end I just gave up and slept through every class. But something magical happened once grade 11 has started - I've discovered the study method that works for me. I still slept during class, occasionally. But since now I've acquired the right approach to learning, I began to understand and appreciate, for the first time, the materials being taught in class.

However, the "click" almost never comes during class time, despite me paying undivided attention in class, because the way things are taught using the traditional approach just never worked for me. The click always comes after I got back home and start scouring the internet for hours in search for the answer. It's time consuming, but for the understanding, it's worth it. This doesn't have to be you, however, because I'm here to help you.

About the lesson

The problem with the way math and science are taught in South African high school is that there are too much memorising and too little understanding. Back in the days we were often told to simply "Apply the formulae", and that, I can confidently say, doesn't work.

With me, you will learn the how and why of every concept you should've learned at school. I'm by no means blaming your teacher for their failure to explain the concepts in detail: they often have very limited time to cover too many subjects. However, this doesn't change the fact that you still don't understand the materials being taught - this is where I can help.

When it comes to teaching, I employ the so-called Socratic method, namely I guide my student to reach the answers themselves, rather then just read through the notes and expect them to know what to do. In this way, students can often achieve a higher level of understanding and also remember the things they've learned better, since they've basically discovered the ideas themselves.

I'm experienced in tutoring high school (NSC) Mathematics and Physical Science. But I've also achieved a 91% in AP mathematics (Core and Statistics) so I can also help you with AP. Feel free to contact me!
