About Rachel

I am passionate about using drawing as a tool to improve observation skills, develop mindfulness, and develop creativity by using different parts of the brain. I have been practicing drawing and painting for five years, and have developed my practice by studying at the Ottawa School of Art and the Nepean Visual Art Centre. My teaching style has evolved through observation of different teaching methods, and adapting the tools and activities that have worked best in my experience.

About the lesson

- A gentle and personable approach to teaching based on proven methods for learning how to draw
- Lessons include handouts, demonstrations, and exercises to help guide students at their own pace
- Focus on realistic renderings of nature-based subjects and landscapes, with ability for students to use students their own subject matter as references
- Lessons are for mature teenagers to adults of all ages (17-100+)

Excellent! Rachel takes time to go over her student's subjects of interest so that she can give personnalized advice. Although I'm a beginner, I like to go into the depths of things right away and Rachel's use of demonstrations + extra visual support helped me grasp concepts and learn vocabulary more easily.

Ji is a great student; showing up on time, eager to ask questions and share his work, and patient and forgiving as I experienced technical difficulties. He is motivated to learn and improve his skills, by practicing techniques on his own outside of our scheduled lessons.

Rachel was my instructor in a Nature Journaling course where she taught me the fundamentals of water colouring. Rachel is a very hands-on teacher. She gave me feedback every step of the way which made art both fun and educational. Before this course I never believed that I could water colour anything, yet because of her support and guidance I now have the confidence to bring a nature journal and water colour set with me whenever I hike. She will support you in developing your skills and encourage you to grow. She’s the best!
