About Gosia

Growing up in Eastern Europe but being educated in the West, I have a penchant for structure and flair. Aside from being a violinist, teacher, and au pair, I organised a conference, “Music with No Borders”, which was the first of its kind in Warsaw. When I have time to myself, I indulge in reading and friendship. I believe music’s importance goes beyond enjoyment for its own sake, and helps to realise the full meaning of what it is to be human. For this reason, I strive both to learn and to share music with others. I look forward to welcoming students to my studio!

When not teaching, I'm busy performing as a soloist, chamber musician and freelance orchestral player with ensembles such as Piccadilly Sinfonietta, the Hallé Orchestra, Orchestra for the Earth and Fantasia Orchestra.
I'm also the concertmaster of Brent Symphony Orchestra.

I teach violin, viola and music theory to students of all ages. I offer lessons by the hour, which can be tailored to a student's needs (or, in the case of small children, their attention span). The lessons are grounded, on the one hand, in a world-class technical and theoretical knowledge of music. On the other, through my experience and pedagogical style, students can expect room for spontaneity and creativity and a good deal of fun and inspiration. Professionally, I have a Master’s degree from the esteemed Royal Academy of Music and currently I’m an Open Academy fellow there. I've taught privately, as well as at London schools, for 7 years, receiving a teaching certificate from the Royal Academy in 2020. I am also DBS checked.

  • When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I grew up surrounded by choral music and singing - my mum sang in a choir and I would often attend her concerts, rehearsals or tours. Then, when I was 7 I started to play the violin - at such young age, I wasn't really aware that I was starting a lifelong journey and that learning an instrument would shape me so much into the person I am now.
  • Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I could definitely listen to 'soul' A LOT. As far as classical music is concerned, probably baroque music...
  • Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Learning a musical instrument is a process, in which the teacher's role is to guide and inspire. It's up to the student however, to take the information in and develop the ideas further. Music lessons are only a small part of what it is to be a musician - it's everyday practice (with help of parents, for under 18s), it's attending concerts, it's playing with friends. Therefore, I make sure my lessons are always tailored to my student's needs and provide sufficient challenge, which will then motivate them to explore things further in their own time.
  • What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Violin and viola of course (I might be a bit biased here) ;)
  • What are your keys to success?

Doing the work now, so you can let go later.
  • Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

My violin teachers (I couldn't choose which one!) - I hugely enjoyed every second spent with each of them and I wish I could keep seeing them as regularly as I used to when I studied.
Clara Schumann - I would love to meet her and talk about what it was to be a woman composer in the 19th century.
Adele - I really admire her work and dedication. Her records are excellent and she always seems to have a very clear image of what sound she wants to achieve.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

Until I was about 11, when asked if I wanted to become a professional musician, I would answer "No way! I want a proper job and 'go to the office! I will be a business woman".

Life takes interesting turns. Absolutely no regrets there!
  • What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

I really commit and give my best - I celebrate my students' progress and help them in times of struggle. It is a truly beautiful thing to help and witness another person grow. We are all musicians at heart and my role as a teacher is to help you uncover it.
