About Emily
Hello, I'm Emily! I have been teaching violin for 7 years to beginner and intermediate students of all ages, and every single lesson is a reminder of why I fell completely in love with this instrument. The violin is one of the most expressive and rewarding instruments in the world, and guiding students from their very first bow stroke all the way to confident, expressive live performances is something I approach with complete dedication and genuine love every time.
My lessons are built on a solid classical foundation — proper bow hold, posture, intonation, shifting, vibrato, and bowing articulations — because that foundation is what makes everything else in violin playing truly possible. Beyond the classical base, I also cover viola and cello fundamentals for students interested in exploring the string family more broadly, fiddle and folk styles for students drawn to Irish, bluegrass, or old-time music, and contemporary pop violin for students who want to bring the instrument into modern musical settings. I place a very strong emphasis on complete stage performance preparation, working on performance mindset, managing nerves, developing stage presence, and delivering expressive and emotionally connected performances in front of real audiences. Over 7 years I have helped students audition successfully for school and regional youth orchestras, earn spots in competitive string ensembles, and perform solos at school concerts and community events with real artistry and confidence. Two of my students earned spots in the Colorado Youth Symphony, which remains one of my proudest professional achievements. I was honored with an Outstanding String Educator Award by the Denver Strings Teachers Association in 2024. My online one-to-one live lessons are patient, precise, and completely focused on building your technique and your performance confidence every single session. My violin lessons cover proper instrument hold and setup, correct bow hold using Russian and Franco-Belgian grip methods, posture and body alignment, left hand position and thumb placement, basic intonation and pitch accuracy training, open string bowing exercises, first position scales and arpeggios, shifting into second, third and higher positions, vibrato development — arm vibrato and wrist vibrato, spiccato, detaché, martelé and advanced bowing techniques, music reading in treble clef for strings, rhythm reading and counting for string players, classical violin repertoire including Suzuki method repertoire, Kayser and Wohlfahrt etudes, classical concertos and solos by Vivaldi, Handel, Seitz and Accolay, orchestra and ensemble preparation, orchestral excerpts and audition repertoire, string orchestra etiquette and ensemble skills, viola fundamentals including alto clef reading and viola-specific technique, cello foundational posture and bow technique, fiddle and folk styles including Irish fiddle, bluegrass, American old-time and country fiddle, contemporary and pop violin arrangements, stage performance coaching and live solo performance preparation, performance nerves management, stage presence and confidence building, and audition preparation for school orchestras, All-State programs and college music programs.
