About Claire
With 24 years of professional experience in violin performance and pedagogy, I hold a Doctorate in Advanced String Artistry and Performance Science. At the outset of our work together, I conduct an exhaustive technical assessment evaluating posture stability, shoulder and chin rest alignment, bow grip ergonomics, left-hand curvature accuracy, finger placement precision, shifting efficiency, vibrato control, intonation consistency, rhythmic coordination, and expressive phrasing awareness. This in-depth diagnostic process allows me to design a fully customised developmental framework that supports both foundational strengthening and advanced artistic refinement.
Foundational sessions emphasise scale uniformity, bow distribution balance, contact-point accuracy, controlled bow speed modulation, finger agility, and tone resonance optimisation. I carefully explain the biomechanics of arm weight distribution, wrist flexibility, and micro-adjustments in bow pressure, demonstrating how these technical subtleties directly influence projection, tonal warmth, and articulation clarity. Structured technical regimens incorporate progressive etudes, interval training, double-stop refinement, and shifting drills to enhance coordination and endurance without introducing muscular tension.
