About Jonathan
I have been giving lessons for over 10 years to students of all different ages and levels. Students have advanced to new levels of technique and musicality and have learned to practice and play more independently. Students have also performed in recitals, received performance awards, and have been accepted into bigger music programs. Students have also had auditions for youth orchestras, participated in competitions, and received other awards and honors.

I use the Suzuki method with beginning students. We work on techniques to hold the violin properly, hold the bow properly, and get a decent sound out of the violin, without too much physical tension. Students begin by learning to play by ear. After they are comfortable playing by ear, we associate the sound with written notes.
I also use the Paul Roland methods so that students can learn the violin in a basic, rudimentary way. It involves a lot of repetitive patterns, back and forth motions that are slow and round, and avoiding excessive tension. This will give the student the tools that he or she needs to learn how to play the violin in a short period of time.
If students have played violin before, we will continue where they left off. We will review fundamentals and correct bad habits, if necessary; and chose repertoire that will advance their technical and musical development and sustain their interest.

Jonathan has been teaching violin to my son since December of 2017. He is very patient and never rushes his students. At the same time he never lets his students stay at current level too long by challenging them to excel further. His knowledge of violin education and teaching technique is very impressive. He has all the great qualities of a dream teacher. I cannot recommend him enough to anyone who is looking for a violin teacher for themselves or their children.
