Sophia – Tutor
My approach to tutoring is structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s learning style. I focus on building strong foundational understanding first, then developing confidence, critical thinking, and clear expression. Lessons are collaborative rather than lecture-based, with plenty of opportunities for students to ask questions and work through examples together.
I have experience working as a philosophy and English tutor, academic mentor, and as an academic advisor at Emerson Tutoring Ltd, Victoria University and Massey University. I hold a Bachelor of Arts with First Class Honours in Philosophy and a Master of Arts in Philosophy. I am currently a part-time law student, bringing strong analytical and communication skills to my teaching.
My lessons are suited to secondary school students and university undergraduates. I work well with students who want structured support, clearer understanding, or help building confidence in their academic work.
I use a mix of guided discussion, worked examples, reference to curriculum, and targeted exercises to reinforce key concepts. Where relevant, I help students break down complex ideas, plan responses, and improve written communication. I adapt my teaching pace and methods depending on the student’s needs, whether they benefit from step-by-step explanation or more independent problem-solving with feedback.
