About Violaine

Coucou !

I'm 24 and among those years, I lived 5 years in the south of France, 1 year in Brazil and 1 year in Spain. As you guess well, the rest is when I lived in my dear little Belgium. I left Belgium in January 2019 to stay one year in Australia.

I graduated in Translation after studying for five years at the University of Mons in Belgium. Even though we had French as a mother tongue, we were taught that we should never take a language for granted, as well as ours. We had been given many strict French classes especially Grammar and Spelling ones.

All this allowed me to feel confident enough to teach my native language. As for relevant experience, I gave French (and English) classes to a 16-year-old Belgian girl for one year every Saturday in 2018. She was definitely a genius in Math and Sciences but had some difficulties in French and English (not anymore!). And that's totally fine! We can't be perfect in everything, but we sure can get closer to that wish. That's what I want to help you with. Not only do I want you to feel confident when speaking French (because don't forget that when there is a will, there is a way), but I also want you to achieve your goals.

In 2015, I was the French tutor of a 4-year-old Spanish boy who was starting at the Académie Française. I also taught Portuguese to a couple during a few months in 2017-18.

About the lesson

From my experience, I know that learning a language is always achievable with a bit of will, positiveness and of course the main ingredient: immersion. By immersion, I mean living in a country where you would listen to French every single day, but not only! It can also be learning French with a French native speaker in a French environment. That's why I will mainly be talking to you in French except when you need explanations of course (always according to your current level).

I really like to get involved in the whole methodologic process my student has. This is for me the first step to learn a language. I am not a fan of asking you to learn grammar in tables by heart. No, no. I don't think this is the best option. I usually prefer to work with a topic we both agree on and insist on grammar at the end for example. Don't worry, I always get to know my students before planning anything so that I know how you would like me to teach you French (Board games, videos, series, songs, situational dialogues...).

Ah, also! I love DICTATIONS... I think this a perfect way to learn a language because it combines listening and writing comprehension, new vocabulary, grammar, spelling etc.
