About Scott
My high school Creative Writing teacher wrote me a note and passed it to me at graduation. It said, "Mozart and Beethoven didn't sit down to work because they got inspired, they got inspired because they sat down to work." He followed it with a quote from "Throw Momma From the Train": "A writer writes, always." I have been sitting down to write, always, for over 30 years. In all that time, I've never stopped studying the craft, attending seminars, reading books, taking classes, or spit-balling with other writers. To my joy, I have had 4 screenplays optioned or sold, several commercials filmed, a radio play produced, short stories awarded, and comic books distributed. Currently, I am developing two graphic novels, a quirky new comic book series, and am in pre-production on a low-budget mockumentary feature. I look forward to adding "taught others about my passion!" to the list.

This is an organic program, tailored to a student's individual goals, interests, and current skill level.
A typical lesson plan for short story writing might begin with a session spent brainstorming story kernels; fleshing out the best idea and outlining the story beats through the beginning, middle, and end; populating the story with the most appropriate characters; developing tone and discovering the "story language"; then taking the story from first draft through the rewrite, identifying and solving trouble spots along the way.
As a tutor, I am patient, insightful, widely-read, and best of all, enthusiastic about the art of storytelling. I can talk about the mechanics and magic of storytelling all day; it is a subject I have devoted my life to the study and practice of, and I am thrilled for the opportunity to share my enthusiasm here.
My lessons are mostly geared toward the newcomer trying to nurture their sparking interest in creative writing, but I am happy to consult and guide writers who have been at it for a while and just want to benefit from the accountability of a class.
