About Daniel

Daniel Dissinger is an Associate Professor in the Writing Program at the University of Southern California, host of the award-winning podcast Writing Remix, a poet, Kerouac scholar, and writing coach. Dan earned his PhD and MA from Saint John’s University as well as an MFA from The Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University. Dan’s poetry has been published in a variety of journals, and Shadow Mountain Press published his first chapbook, tracing the shape. In 2020, he launched two internationally recognized podcasts (Writing Remix Podcast & The Nostalgia Test Podcast). In 2021, he co-created an international network of academic podcasters called The Humanities Podcast Network.

Daniel is a New York poet who has performed at the Bowery Poetry Club, The Nuyorican Poet’s Café, The New York Poetry Festival, and The Queens Lit Festival and has curated events all throughout the greater New York area. In 2015, he had the honor of performing at the International Poetry Festival at Bridgewater College. Daniel’s poetry has been published in a variety of journals such as Monkey Puzzle Magazine, 580 Split (online), the first issue of Trunk of Delirium, and/or V2, as well as the 2015 anthology Before Passing put out by Great Weather for Media. In 2013, he was featured as the “Centre Stage Poet” in England’s Decanto Magazine.

My services as a Writing Coach & Creative Consultant is to ensure your personal VOICE, (whether creatively, in your college essays, or resumes) is clearly heard while making sure you cultivate a skill set that will achieve any of the writing goals you have set for yourself.

Working with me is a personable experience. Unlike working with a tutoring company, we work side-by-side. We become a team concerned only with YOUR success.

I believe that my creative writing background as a Poet and my experience as a college professor (currently part of the USC Writing Faculty) gives me a unique perspective on how to approach writing, both academically and creatively. Writing is a collaborative effort. It is not a contest, but instead is a skill that invites an audience--that audience can be a blog readership, academic scholars, your teacher, or fans of your creative writing--to get to know who you are, intimately.
