About Joel

Hello! I'm Joel Guera (I usually go by Mr. Guera to my younger students) and I am an award-winning, certified art teacher with over a decade of experience. And I LOVE teaching art. I love art so much that I am also an entrepreneur who creates collectible art lessons in the form of playable trading cards. Although I specialize in elementary art education I work with children and adults alike - across all skill levels. My art lessons are designed to be engaging, fun and customized to your individual needs and interests. I enjoy discovering and rediscovering all of the different art supplies and turning them into interesting lessons. My self-made curriculum combines art history, vocabulary, with a variety of art supplies, techniques, tips, and tricks. About the lesson

️ Hello amazing artists!! Welcome or welcome back, I'm Mr. Guera and below you'll discover everything you need to know about my innovative curriculum structure. As an educator I specialize in art education for elementary students but have years of experience tutoring adults. Lessons are designed to introduce artists of all ages to a variety of media.

All lessons are 1 hour long and virtually taught using Zoom.

SKILL LEVELS
• Through a combination of natural talent and practice artists progress at different speeds. That's why my art lessons are categorized into skill levels so that you can select the lesson that works best for you: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced.
• BEGINNER: Lessons focus on exposing students to a variety of art concepts and supplies, the basics of their use, cleaning and care. Grades Kindergarten and up. Ages 5 and up.
• INTERMEDIATE: Lessons at this level are slightly more challenging with an emphasis on art tips and tricks that save time, improve results and thus boost confidence.
• ADVANCED: Artists are given a broader variety of art lessons (including digital art, animation and even video editing for YouTube)!!

️ ART LESSON PROCESS [1 hour] ️
️ [Part 1] Introduction to the lesson
- This may include a brief book reading related to the art lesson, powerpoint presentation or lecture (with images)!
️ [Part 2] Preparation
- At this time we double check that we have everything needed in our creative corners, sleeves rolled up and are ready to rock on with our smock on!
️ [Part 3] Art! Art! Art!
- Creating your masterpiece is usually broken up into 3 parts allowing for short breaks to help keep our minds refreshed and creative energy flowing.
️ [Part 4] Reflection and Reward
- During the last minutes of our time together we critique our masterpieces and I show you the Buzu Trading Card that you can receive (see BONUS LESSON section below).

️ LESSON SELECTION ️
Should you choose me as your tutor (and you should ) I will send you a link which shows all art lessons for all skill levels. This will allow you to select a lesson based on your interests whether they be subject matter, art media or skill level.

ART MEDIA
I'm excited to share everything I know about art with you! There is a wide range of supplies to use for my lessons and here is a brief list for what you can expect:
• Pencils
• Crayons (Parafin, silky)
• Colored Pencils
• Paint (acrylic, tempra, oil)
• Watercolor (liquid, cakes, pencil)
• Oil Pastels
• Paper Craft (origami, weaving, flip books)
• Chalk Pastel
• Clay (air dry, model magic, play doh)
• Fibers (pipe cleaners, yarn, string, stitch)
• Markers (copic, Sharpie, alcohol, chalk, sketch)
• Pens (color, technical, multiliner)
• Digital Applications (pixel art, animated gifs, vector are, digital coloring)

️ BONUS LESSONS ️
Equal parts "thank you", "congratulations" and reward for putting forth your best effort, I offer a FREE Buzu Trading Card (sent to you in the mail). Buzu Trading Cards are highly collectible, usable in tabletop gameplay and come with a QR code that links to another art lesson (also taught by me)! Of course receiving these amazing cards is completely optional.
