About Maya
Hi, my name is Maya and I'm a student at the University of York. When I'm not studying, I like to read, write, make art, and watch and play football. I own a black cat called Skye, but he is at home while I am at university. My favourite book at the moment is 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' by Philip K. Dick.
My goal in tutoring is to remind children and young adults that learning can be fun... because it can! I like to make games out of learning materials to help achieve this - often a reward system, even just from a game, inspires harder-working and more active engagement

Ideally I hope to cater each of my lessons towards a particular student, depending on the texts they are studying or where their problems are arising in their work, for example if they were struggling with the creative writing element of GCSE English Language then I would provide prompts and discuss methods to improve their writing abilities, e.g. interesting sentence starters and a wider range of punctuation use.
Lessons can be between 40 and 60 minutes depending on preference, and I can cater these lessons from Key Stage 2 all the way to GCSE. I have worked as an informal tutor in the past as well as having a lot of experience working with children in other settings, for example as a summer camp activity leader and a children's football coach.
