About Althea
In high school, my passion for environmental and natural sciences stemmed from my AP enviro class. I continued to study environmental sciences at the University of Vermont where I also self designed a concentration in fisheries and aquatic sciences. My course work included multiple labs in which I applied what I learned in class to real world situations. I am extremely familiar with scientific processes, lab procedures (from class labs and 2.5 years external lab experience), scientific writing, graphing and creating figures, as well as creating effective presentations. I completed an undergraduate research project on Mysis (a shrimp!) migrations and attended some professional conferences to share my findings! After I graduated, I worked at a fish hatchery for 7 months, where I learned about Chinook salmon rearing and associated environmental impacts. I currently work at CSU and want to share my passion for science with people of all ages! In my space time I like doing art, going on hikes, and rollerblading!

I am able to help out students at the elementary-undergraduate level. In addition to having my own rigorous academic experiences, I have had a lot of in the field/ applied science jobs and internships. I tend to draw on my experiences to create memorable lessons for those I am teaching. I understand that there are multiple learning styles and that each person is unique in how they best acquire and retain knowledge. I aspire to adapt lessons to how the student learns and integrate multiple teaching strategies into lessons (visual, activities, external materials, online simulations, etc.) so that people I help out can get as much as possible out of lessons!
