About Carmen
I am currently a third year student at The University of British Columbia pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Having attended high school in B.C., I am very familiar with the techniques and skills necessary to be successful and excel in a high school English class, writing the Provincial Exam, writing university applications, academic writing in university, and so on.
I have completed and achieved high grades in university level coursework including: English literature (non-fictional prose), German literature, research writing, creative non-fiction, and poetry. I am also well-versed in other subject areas and have experience writing in various disciplines such as Philosophy, Psychology, and Gender/Sexuality studies.
In the past, I have studied several different languages (Cantonese, Swedish, Japanese, and Mandarin) which has given me perspective on the complexities of mastering the English language due to the differences in grammar and sentence structure. This insight allows me to better understand the difficulties behind learning how to be good writer when it comes to the English language.

My teaching methodology is to break down concepts that may be difficult to understand, teach separate skills that will be helpful, and putting those skills to use by applying them holistically. I like to approach teaching by setting achievable goals, and working at a comfortable pace with the student to achieve them. I will cater each lesson to the needs and desires of any individual.
