About Danielle
I am currently a graduate student at the University of Michigan and I hold a Bachelor's in Art History with Honors from Wayne State University. I have previous experience giving art history and philosophy lectures to undergraduate cohorts (specifically in a course on the Philosophy of Art), and was a peer mentor to art and art history students while in my undergrad. I have worked for a number of arts organizations, including the Detroit Insitute of Arts and Midtown Detroit, Inc., and was also an undergraduate research assistant at the Wayne State University Art Collection.

Art history is more than just learning about art—it is about learning *through* the arts. Through the history of art, you can learn history, politics, economics, how to write, how to present, how to argue (art history is an underrecognized discipline of many lawyers!), and how to think critically. Learning through art is the ideal way for anyone who struggles with traditional modes of learning!
My approach to teaching is not memory-based. It is based on leveraging a student's creativity and critical thinking skills to help them articulate thoughts and arguments. We would learn about the history and the impact historical events had on certain cultures, for which we use artworks and artists as case studies. Writing is a major component of art history, and so we will work on writing skills as well as research skills. Through inquiry-based discussions, we will learn that in art history—as with the reality of our world—there is no one right answer, and the challenge will be to find and support our conclusions.
Ultimately, the structure will be adapted to the tune of the student. We can discuss what cultures and eras the student may be most interested in learning about. In addition, a course can be offered for students who are artists to get into the theoretical and practical histories of art that can be used to inform art practice.
