About Gemma
Hello, I’m Dr Gemma, a PGCE-qualified lecturer, with over 15 years’ experience working in education.
Throughout my career I have taught in a wide range of academic environments, including supplementary education schools, an ILM leadership training centre, FE colleges, schools and universities across Wales. This experience has given me a good understanding of how students progress through the education system and what is required to succeed at each stage.
I specialise in supporting students preparing for university, for private school scholarship applications and entrance exams, International Baccalaureate programmes, Welsh Baccalaureate qualifications, and university applications.
Since 2013 my students have maintained a 100% pass rate, with many securing scholarships and places at highly selective schools and international programmes including full scholarships to Howell’s School, Monmouth School for Girls, and more recently an International Baccalaureate admission to UWC India, a highly competitive international college known for its academic excellence.
Alongside tutoring, I work as a developmental editor within the publishing industry, supporting authors in developing manuscripts for publication. This experience allows me to help students develop clear, persuasive academic writing and strong personal statements for competitive applications.

My lessons are tailored to support students preparing for university or access course entry, private school scholarship applications, selective entrance exams, Welsh Baccalaureate requirements and UWC International Baccalaureate.
Sessions focus not only on subject knowledge, but also on developing the critical thinking, analytical writing and confidence required for competitive academic environments.

I have experience working with students across a range of exam boards and qualification frameworks, allowing lessons to be tailored to the specific requirements of each school or programme.
My approach focuses on helping students develop independent learning strategies, exam confidence and intellectual curiosity, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in demanding academic settings.
I support neurodiverse learners, using differentiated teaching strategies that allow students to build confidence and succeed at their own pace.

I believe education should be as accessible as possible. Discounts are available for single-parent households, as well as sibling discounts, university students from lower socio-economic backgrounds and I also offer a 10% discount on block bookings of ten sessions.
