About Steliana
Hello, my name is Steliana, I am currently a mechanical engineering student at McGill University. I graduated from high school with a full Bilingual International Baccalaureate Diploma for French and English. I have tutored in the past for math in the IB Middle Years Program but I can cover the material from the beginning of middle school all the way till ninth grade. I enjoy math but past that I like creating analogies and real-world examples to help a student visualize a concept.

I like to teach the way I learn which is by showing, giving the student the opportunity to try in an accepting environment and then evaluating where mistakes happen. If/when a student doesn't grasp a concept I like to switch gears and put in an analogy the student will relate to or mnemonic device. A typical lesson plan would depend on where the student is starting. If they have started tutoring because of struggles in tests midway through the school year, I will look through the test and see what chapter the student is at in their syllabus and either present them with similar questions like those made mistakes in or watch them process the question on their own and see where the disconnect is in the method. If tutoring starts with a preset syllabus, the session will function as a lesson. Starting with presenting the chapter, then teaching theory with a led example followed by practice. The lessons I could teach could be for students running from the beginning of middle school to ninth grade, it is the age group interval I have done in the past. What sets me apart as a tutor I would say is that I will pay attention to the students' struggles in a very concentrated way meaning understanding their background, whether they've moved or not, in what year of school, whether English or French is not their first language (I am fluent in both) and making sure to make space for that in the lesson. This could be considered common courtesy but I will also pay attention to their hobbies and make a lesson plan that may include some concepts they carry with them from the sport they play or how they spend their free time. I would like to pay attention to things I would've liked from a teacher.
