About Sasha

Over the past two years, I have helped dozens of students improve their academic skills and progress in their coursework with more confidence. My sessions might involve improving reading comprehension skills in History class, practicing identification of evidence to make a strong argument for an English paper, brainstorming meaningful and concrete stories for a college essay, strengthening foundational grammar competencies for standardized tests, or any combination! In addition to English/Language Arts, I can support AP Psych students and college students in psychology courses. I have a degree from the University of Chicago in Comparative Human Development (with Honors), focusing on developmental psychology. I have firsthand experience conducting literature reviews, developing experiments, analyzing experimental data and carrying out studies that have secured my understanding of psychology and social science statistics concepts. About the lesson

I'm hoping to help you or your child excel in written communication and psychology topics.

I approach tutoring by assessing students' strengths and weaknesses, and then developing a targeted curriculum to support problem areas. During our sessions, we will do exercises and practice problems, with students talking through their thought processes so I can correct false information or unnecessary lines of thinking. As we practice together, I will note the techniques and strategies that I have introduced during our sessions and review them with the student to conclude our meeting. I will assign homework as needed to give students an opportunity to continue integrating these modes of thinking on their own. For standardized tests, I also ask students to take practice tests on their own with progressively longer lengths and higher frequencies in order to increase students' ability to focus on the test without burning out.

I want to know what motivates you to excel in your academic career and center those goals in our sessions. Psychological research shows that students who begin courses by writing about their interests and motivations perform better over time simply through these interventions.
