About Mariah
I have been volunteering in special-needs schools from I was 16, and have just got back from Nepal where I spent two months volunteering as a teacher in HVP-Central, teaching English and History.
I have been a music tutor for over a year and a half, where I have had over 50 students. I have entered my pupils in exams and national competitions.
I have a 100% pass rate with all exams.

I am currently studying at the University of Cambridge reading Education with History.
I focus on psychology, history, sociology and philosophy from an educational position, how we can tackle inequalities through policy. I am passionate about gender and women's issues specifically, and love looking at previous historical events - that are so often perceived as male-dominated, and ask the question 'what were the women doing when this happened?'.
Furthermore, I am also a music enthusiast. I play violin (grade 8 distinction), piano (grade 8) tin whistle (traditional irish, distinction grade 8), fiddle (traditional irish, distinction grade 8) and saxophone (distinction grade 6). I also have grade 6 music theory. I have tutored music privately and in group sessions for violin, piano, fiddle and tin whistle for over a year.
Teaching is extremely important to me and is something I want to go into after I graduate. Education really is the most powerful tool a child can have, as it provides the building blocks for the rest of their lives. I am enthusiastic, great at organisation, sociable and energetic. I always put 150% into everything I do.
I will direct my lesson plans around each individual student and will try various methods of revision to see what suits the student best. I will make revision plans, cards and timetable so that the student's progress is easy to see. I like to focus on the student's weaknesses, and enhance them into becoming strengths through different techniques such as debates, presentations and drama. This way, the student's confidence will also increase as well as their knowledge.
