About Kez

I am a final year undergraduate student at the University of Birmingham, returning from an exchange year at the University of Melbourne. My love and enthusiasm for biology took me across the world to study anatomy at one of the best Universities in the world, and I would love to share my enthusiasm with my students.
I have worked alongside the education sector for 4 years, and enjoy helping students tackle new content (especially because I love it myself). I have loved volunteering in healthcare related areas, and also love to chat about your next steps or future options that follow school - it can be helpful to talk through your thoughts with someone already going through it! I am always here for a chat, and love the arts and sciences alike if you need support in other areas.

About the lesson

When approaching a new skill, the fastest way to learn is to teach.
My lessons will target the areas you are least confident in - and I will encourage you to teach the content back to me each week to solidify what you've learnt. Typically, lessons will be a variation of 4 activities - we will learn new content, discuss the necessary skills to tackle it, look at relevant exam questions, and then write and go through answers. We can do that quickly in 40 minutes, or can work 90 minutes - each week spending a small amount of time looking backwards in order to move steadily forwards.
This method will work for all secondary ages, as it is essential to the exam preparation skills needed to succeed at school. Younger students might spend more time strengthening understanding, and older students might focus on exam time-management, but each lesson will adapt to your specific strengths and where you are looking to improve.
Having mentored GCSE science students struggling to find the learning style that works best for them, especially when facing difficulties presented by ADHD and dyslexia, I am confident I can respond to student feedback and success to make a flexible, creative lesson where each individual feels safe to learn. Most recently tutoring 11-14 year olds in Moseley school in Birmingham, I am used to writing weekly reports to focus our progress, and am always invested in how I can best help my students. Alongside our academic learning, I enjoyed discussing revision techniques and creative ways to learn and connect information in my last role, finding the best method for each student.
