About Jack
I am passionate about learning! As an aspiring academic, discovering knowledge and passing it on to others is my life. That is why I am excited to be a tutor!
I went to the University of St Andrews after high school, and fell in love with Persian- one of the oldest languages in the world. After studying it for a few years, I realised I wanted to help other people learn it too. So I began tutoring within my university. I couldn't get enough of teaching, so I began to tutor for international relations too.
During COVID-19 I had the opportunity to be a substitute teacher for secondary school students. I enjoyed having the chance to teach students a range of subjects, from European history, to reading comprehension, to geography. After three years, I decided I wanted to combine my love of teaching with my love of Persian.
So, I returned to St Andrews as a Global Merit Scholar to earn my master's degree in Iranian history. During this time, I worked as a student ambassador. In this position I taught prospective students about everything the university had to offer. Next year I will begin my PhD candidacy at the London School of Economics, where I will continue to study the history of Iran and pursue my passion.

I have experience working with students ages 10-22. My lessons last an hour, and structure may vary based on age and subject.
In a typical lesson, I will first discuss learning goals with the student. Then, we review content relevant to the subject. First I present information, then we discuss it together. Finally, I will informally test for retention, sometimes through a game.
This method worked well during my time working in secondary schools, and as a university tutor and seminar leader.
I am also happy to review essays, assist with reading comprehension, assist with research, and provide advice on building academic skills.
