About Lauren
I am currently on the track to becoming a physics professor that works on theoretical particle physics. I am extremely passionate about math and physics, but I also understand that not everybody feels the same way that I do. My personal goal in teaching, beyond just relaying information, is to stimulate my student's interests so that they are engaged in lesson's and really care about what they are learning.

I personally think that the best way to tutor somebody starts by working with basic examples of a problem, to first get familiar with the subject. I also find that asking conceptual questions is extremely helpful. Specifically, I mean asking questions where the answer can't be found directly in a textbook, in order to make the distinction between if they have just memorized the material or if they have a solid conceptual understanding of the material. I myself learn best with visual examples, so I like to incorporate diagrams and schematics into my teaching as well.
A typical lesson plan (which is very subject to change depending on the course) would generally start with a brief introduction to the material, followed by examples to start building a foundation. I use more involved examples to introduce complicated material, rather than just 'lecturing' for several minutes. Each session would end in a recap of the discussed material and some conceptual questions so that I can gauge the student's understanding of the material. I have worked in several different teaching environments, from a Montessori school teaching four year old's, to being a teacher's assistant for a college astrophysics lab. My experience has made me confident in my ability to adapt my teaching methods to suit the needs and learning styles of different individuals. My lessons are mainly targeted for mathematics ( anywhere from kindergarten to multivariable calculus) and physics (from algebra-based high school classes to quantum mechanics). I am also confident in my abilities to tutor Chemistry, Latin, Python coding, and computer programming.
