About Harriet
I’m Harriet, an enthusiastic and approachable undergraduate Music student at Durham University. I’m a friendly, patient and positive person who genuinely enjoys working with children and helping them develop their confidence.
I’ve always enjoyed English and learning, and I love being able to share that enthusiasm with others. I decided to tutor because I find it really rewarding seeing a student understand something they were previously struggling with and become more confident in their own abilities. I believe learning should feel encouraging and enjoyable, rather than stressful or intimidating.
Outside of university, I have experience working with children through summer boarding courses in London, where I taught English and supported students in lessons. I have also volunteered in a primary school, helping children prepare for their 11+ exams. These experiences have shown me how rewarding teaching can be and have encouraged me to continue tutoring alongside my studies.
I aim to make every lesson relaxed, engaging and tailored to the individual student, while providing the encouragement and support they need to reach their goals.

My approach to tutoring is friendly, supportive and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I aim to make lessons engaging while helping students develop their confidence, understanding and exam technique. I use a mixture of discussion, practice questions, explanations and personalised feedback to ensure students understand the topic rather than simply memorising information.
Lessons would typically be 1 hour long, although I am happy to be flexible depending on the student’s age and requirements.
I have experience tutoring children on summer boarding courses in London, where I taught English and supported students during lessons. Additionally, I volunteered in a primary school, helping children prepare for their 11+ exams and develop their confidence in core subjects.
