About Freddie
My name is Freddie Crisp and I am a student studying Combined Honours Social Sciences at Durham.
At A Level, I achieved very strong A*s in English Literature and Classical Civilisations. In the English papers I achieved full marks in the Prose and the Poetry sections, and in the Classical Civilisations papers I achieved 98/100 in the World of the Hero section. I am a capable student, and an equally capable teacher - most of my time in school was spent informally teaching others rhetoric and argument formulation in preparation for exams and university.
My goal is to bolster your confidence and rhetorical skills through simple conversation and writing exercises. I am patient, and I find value in every line of argument, no matter how outlandish. I am not here to judge, but to teach you how to express yourself in a way that will both pass your exams and bring you success in the future.

I take a Socratic approach to tutoring, in which I discuss the material with the student and discuss how one can formulate arguments relating to the text. I particularly focus on essay skills: argument construction, setting and layout, quotation analysis and articulation foremost. My goal is for the students to sit down in the exam they will take and be able to write a full essay with confidence, no matter the question. To achieve this, the text must be understood, and so I spend much of my time ensuring that the text is understood both literally and thematically through conversation.
I teach lessons up to two hours - typically one hour - in which we will go over the week's work and focus on areas of literature (or otherwise) that the student does not understand. Sometimes we may go through an essay, whether one set by school or one we work on together during the session.
At A level in English, I achieved an A* in English (Pearson EDXCEL board), with full marks in the Poetry and Prose papers, and the highest score in the school's history. In Classical Civilisation I achieved A* and the highest score in the school's history. I tutored others in my classes to ensure they passed. Your children will be in capable hands.
I teach students up to GCSE in English Literature and Language, and A Level in Classical Civilisations.
My going rate £20 an hour.
