About Justin
I've worked with the Youth Policy Institute to help underprivileged students in remedial classes and I've worked at private in-person one-on-one tutoring programs for students ahead of the curve. You know what all of those students have told me at least once? "I don't get this..." I know you might feel self-conscious or unmotivated and sometimes it feels like it's hard to ask for help, but I'm here to tell you I've been in the same exact spot you've been in! We're all in the same boat. I'm not just here to be your tutor but I want you to genuinely succeed and find the joy in reading and literature as I have. Help you ace your AP or SAT exams! Be there when you inevitably say, "I don't get this."
Here's a little story. At the beginning of 2026, my New Year's Resolutions were: get a six-pack (pfft), go out with friends more, and read a book. I hadn't touched or read a physical book in over three years! I had no idea if my reading skills were even the same as when I was in college, it was probably worse! I chose to read for my first book, a 1,280 page epic fantasy book about as thick as my fist called The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. Yikes, I know, way to set myself up to succeed, but I hunkered down, got the audiobook and physical book, and dove into the deep end. I came out the other side having actually enjoyed reading again even though it was terrifying, and learned that I'm not as bad as I thought I was! Since then, I've read 22 books and counting! My whole point of this is, it's never EVER too late to enjoy reading again! If I can achieve one thing as a tutor, it's to help you love reading.

Slow and steady wins the race! Whatever material you are reading for school I'm going to be reading right along with you so you'll have an accountability partner, just like having a gym buddy! We'll have in-depth discussion, build good habits for identifying the core of the readings, and practice writing consistently using an easy template! It's like a muscle you have to train! But outside of class material, I'll include fun readings like comic books (Spider-Man has a lot to teach!) Any homework you have will always take priority!
I've been in countless afterschool programs, private tutors, SAT bootcamps, you name it! I know all their tips and tricks. I'm also currently a substitute teacher so I know exactly what kind of material is being taught in classes, what teachers are looking for, and what some districts who are doing really well are doing that others aren't! I've also subbed for all grades from TK to High school so I'm prepped to help at any level of ELA!
