About Alejandro
I am a UCLA graduate pursuing a career in medicine, with a strong academic and professional background in biology, neuroscience, clinical healthcare, and scientific research. My experience in both research and patient-care settings has strengthened my ability to explain complex scientific concepts clearly, accurately, and in ways that connect to real-world applications.
Teaching has also been a meaningful part of my life from an early age. My mother is a teacher, and I spent a great deal of time helping her in the classroom with students of different ages and learning needs. Through those experiences, I learned how important patience, encouragement, structure, and flexibility are when helping someone understand new material. I also saw firsthand that students learn in very different ways, which strongly influences how I tutor today.
As a tutor, I tailor my approach to each student's individual strengths, challenges, and learning preferences. I use evidence-based strategies such as active recall, spaced repetition, concept mapping, visual learning, guided problem-solving, and teach-back methods to strengthen both comprehension and long-term retention. I also pay close attention to how a student processes information so I can adjust explanations, pacing, and practice methods accordingly.
My goal is to create a supportive and professional learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building confidence in their abilities. I focus not only on helping students improve academically, but also on helping them develop stronger study habits, reasoning skills, and independence as learners.
I work with middle school, high school, and college students in biology, general science, anatomy and physiology, neuroscience, and related STEM subjects. Whether a student needs help catching up, preparing for an exam, strengthening foundational knowledge, or working through more advanced material, I provide structured and individualized lessons designed around their specific goals.

My approach to tutoring is rooted in both STEM education and an understanding of how the brain processes and retains information. Rather than relying on a single teaching style, I first assess how each student learns best—whether they respond more strongly to visual explanations, verbal discussion, repetition, active problem-solving, pattern recognition, or hands-on application. From there, I adapt each lesson to make the material more intuitive, memorable, and easier to retrieve later.
A typical lesson begins with a brief assessment of the student's current understanding, followed by targeted instruction on the areas that need the most support. I use techniques such as visual diagrams, concept mapping, guided questioning, practice problems, retrieval practice, spaced review, and teach-back methods to strengthen both comprehension and long-term retention. For more complex STEM topics, I break concepts into smaller systems and relationships so students can understand how individual ideas connect rather than memorizing isolated facts.
What sets me apart is my background as a UCLA graduate pursuing medicine, along with experience in clinical healthcare, neuroscience, and scientific research. That background allows me to approach learning from both a scientific and neurological perspective. I pay close attention to how a student organizes information, where confusion begins, and what type of explanation helps the concept "click." My goal is not only to help students succeed in a particular class, but also to help them develop stronger problem-solving, reasoning, and study strategies that they can carry into future STEM courses.
My lessons are designed for middle school, high school, and college students studying biology, general science, anatomy and physiology, neuroscience, and related STEM subjects. I can help with class material, homework, exam preparation, study strategies, and building a stronger foundation for advanced science coursework.
