About George
My name is George, and I offer tutoring in history from the ancient world to modern times. I am a recent graduate from UCLA with a BA in History, and I will soon begin my Master of Studies at the University of Oxford in Greek and Roman History. At UCLA, I never earned below an A- in any of my classes, graduating cum laude with a 3.95 cumulative GPA. Although I have a strong academic record now, I was not always a great student. In middle school and the beginning of high school, I struggled with my grades, often fighting to pass, failing some classes, and even attending summer school during my first two years of high school. By focusing on my strengths and discovering learning methods that actually worked for me, I was able to change the course of my academic career, eventually earning a place at UCLA and now preparing for graduate study at Oxford. I am living proof that any student can improve their grades and transform their educational experience. My goal is to help you do the same: to recognize your strengths and potential, perform at a high level, and achieve excellent results. On top of all this, as a recent graduate, I understand the pressures of high school and college workloads and can explain history in a way that feels realistic, manageable, and genuinely engaging. I look forward to helping you succeed!

About My Lessons
I graduated with a BA in History from UCLA and will soon start my Master of Studies at the University of Oxford. I offer academic mentorship in history, from the ancient world to modern times. My aim is to help students do well in their essays and exams, enjoy learning, understand how history works, and see why it matters.
My Teaching Method and Techniques
I adapt my teaching style to each student. Whether you need help with the basics or want to improve your essays and test scores, I adjust my approach to fit your goals. I focus on making you comfortable and ready to succeed. I explain complex ideas in simple terms and use clear examples, keeping lessons straightforward and professional. This helps you understand the material and feel prepared for your tests and essays.
A typical Lesson plan
I do not use a one-size-fits-all lesson plan because every student learns differently. I start by finding out how you learn best, whether through discussion, visuals, storytelling, or writing practice, and then tailor each session to your strengths. My goal is to adjust the pace, format, and focus to what works for you, so you feel confident, supported, and engaged with the material.
What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor
It is rare to find a tutor with both a strong background from UCLA and the training of an incoming Oxford graduate student. I use engaging methods to make learning enjoyable, while keeping lessons focused and in-depth. When history is interesting rather than tedious and verbose, students are more motivated and achieve better results. Additionally, since I am a recent graduate myself, I understand what it is like to be in your position: balancing heavy workloads, preparing for exams, and trying to make sense of dense historical material while still enjoying it. I remember the same pressures and doubts about essays, grades, and expectations, so I can explain things in a way that feels familiar and realistic, not distant or intimidating. This closeness in experience helps me connect with students, understand their frustrations, and turn history into something that feels manageable, engaging, and genuinely worth caring about.
Who the Lessons Are For
My lessons are great for high school students taking regular high school classes, AP and IB-level courses, and college undergraduates taking general education, lower-division, and upper-division classes. I also help students prepare for university admissions essays or interviews. Motivated learners who want a clear and detailed guide through different periods, from the ancient and classical world to medieval, early modern, and contemporary history, are welcome too.
