About Delaney

I graduated from UCLA in 2018 with a degree in Linguistics and Computer Science, then proceeded to complete my master's degree in Disability, Design and Innovation from UCL in London. I studied abroad my second year of college, moving to the Netherlands to study Artificial Intelligence. Outside of school, I love traveling, horseback riding, ski racing, baking and wake surfing!

In addition to my 2 years of Computer Science-specific tutoring experience at a university level, I also have 2 years of experience tutoring elementary - middle school students. I spent 1 year with Bruin Partners, a tutoring club serving middle schools in LA, and 1 year as an English and Dutch tutor for refugee children in the Netherlands. I also have experience working with children with disabilities, so please inquire about this if you are interested.

I strive for professionalism in all of my lessons. While I want to know what my students are interested in so that I can personalize their lessons, I will never ask personal questions beyond what is necessary for the lesson. If at any point a student feels uncomfortable, they may leave the lesson without providing a reason.

About the lesson

I strongly believe learning can be both fun and effective. Although programming is "science", it doesn't mean we can't make it fun! I encourage creativity and building engaging and educational projects as a team.

A typical lesson with me involves:
- Getting to know the student and what interests them, or catching up on their progress if we've worked together before
- Going over the theory behind our lesson
- Practicing the theory with a couple of problems
- Inserting what we learned in the theory into our project

Lessons are 100% flexible to meet your needs.

These lessons are best suited for 6th - 12th graders just getting into programming. I am also happy to help undergraduate computer science students with concepts from their classes. In the second case, lessons will be less project-focused unless the student chooses that route.
