About Olivia
Hi, I'm Olivia - a philosophy tutor with a passion for ideas! I enjoy helping students to think clearly, argue persuasively and to explore intellectual creativity across the work that they do. For my A-Levels, I studied Philosophy (A*), Psychology (A) and English Literature (A), before studying BA Philosophy at the University of Liverpool where I received a First. I then studied for an interdisciplinary MA in Race, Ethnicity and Postcolonial Studies at University College London, achieving a distinction. I have been a philosophy tutor since 2018 and continued as I evolved with my academic journey. I believe philosophy is about developing the ability to ask questions, to analyse ideas and to communicate with confidence. In my teaching, I combine academic rigour with open discussion, making space for both structured essay guidance and dynamic conversation.

I am passionate about the role of philosophy in our lives; it is best when it is both rigorous and alive. A subject to be studied carefully, but also something to think with, debate and enjoy.
My lessons are designed to support students at A-Level, undergraduate and postgraduate level (aligned with UK exam boards AQA and OCR), as well as anyone with an intellectual curiosity and desire to be creative! A typical 1-hour lesson may include:
- Essay editing and feedback -sharpening structure, argumentation and clarity
- Conversational topic exploration
- Discussing focused topics from metaphysics to ethics to philosophy of mind
- Interdisciplinary thinking - for example, drawing on history, politics, psychology or literature to enrich philosophical understanding
- Reading list guidance & text discussion
- Working through primary texts (Plato, Kant, Wittgenstein, etc.) with tailored reading strategies
- Philosophical problem-solving
- Practising how to break down abstract problems and explore and develop well-reasoned responses
- Communication skills
- Building confidence in oral argument, intellectual and creative expression, Socratic dialogue and thinking about how to translate this into clear written expression
All sessions are tailored to the students' goals - whether preparing for exams, refining essays, developing postgraduate research, or simply enjoying discussion around key ideas. My teaching style is light, explorative and conversational. I endeavour to emphasise critical thinking skills that are transferable across disciplines and career contexts. We can pay close attention to exam-specific requirements, including how to analyse questions, construct arguments, and engage with scholarly material. Whether you are preparing for Philosophy A-level, working on an undergraduate dissertation, or seeking to strengthen your postgraduate research and writing, these lessons are built to give you both academic results and philosophical confidence.

Olivia is a fantastic tutor – her passion for the subject is clear. She has a rare ability to make even the most abstract philosophical concepts feel accessible and engaging, and tailored each lesson to meet me exactly where I was. She's thoughtful and patient, and always encourages deeper questioning and reflection - which became evident in my essay writing technique. I would highly recommend!
