About Sonny
I'm a UCL graduate and exam-focused tutor specialising in GCSE and A-Level Sciences, including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, alongside Maths and university preparation. My own academic record speaks to what's possible with the right approach: 100% grade 8–9s at GCSE, followed by an A* in English and Economics and an A in History at A-Level, before securing my place at UCL.
I began tutoring in 2017, aged 15, with Richer Education — delivering group STEM sessions with a practical, hands-on approach designed to build genuine scientific understanding, alongside private one-to-one tuition — and I've continued to tutor privately ever since. Over the years, I've taught students across the UK, as well as in Madrid and Saudi Arabia, guiding students through GCSE and A-Level Sciences with a focus on both core theory and exam application.
My lessons are syllabus-led and mapped directly against exam board specifications (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, and WJEC) and mark schemes. I build revision around retrieval and spaced practice, using interleaved practice questions across topics and regular timed, exam-condition work — including practical/required-practicum recall and data-handling questions — with structured feedback on past papers, so students build real scientific literacy, not just memorised facts.
As someone who is neurodivergent myself, I've developed my own strategies for learning and have worked extensively with SEN students, adapting these evidence-based techniques to fit each student's individual profile.
Outside of tutoring, I bring real-world perspective into how I teach, from managing a 1,400-capacity music venue to producing documentaries with VICE.

Here's a 250-word "About My Lessons" section (science-focused, following on from the last one):
Every lesson is built around a simple principle: strong exam performance comes from genuine understanding, not last-minute memorising. I start by mapping the syllabus for your specific exam board (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, or WJEC), identifying exactly which content and skills the mark scheme rewards, so nothing we cover is wasted time.
From there, lessons are structured around retrieval and spaced practice rather than passive note-taking. Instead of re-reading textbooks, students actively recall key concepts, definitions, and processes under low-stakes conditions, which research shows builds far stronger long-term memory than rereading or highlighting. I use interleaved practice questions that mix topics together, forcing students to identify which method or concept applies rather than just repeating what they've just been taught — a technique that mirrors how exam papers are actually structured.
For sciences specifically, this includes regular practice with required-practical recall, data-handling and graph-interpretation questions, and application-style questions that test understanding rather than rote recall. We work through past papers under timed, exam-condition settings, followed by detailed mark-scheme-based feedback, so students learn precisely where marks are gained or lost.
Every student learns differently, so I adapt these techniques to the individual — drawing on my own neurodivergent experience and years of working with SEN students to adjust pacing, explanation style, and revision materials accordingly. The goal isn't just better grades, but students who leave each session more confident, more independent, and genuinely better equipped to handle exam pressure.
