About Brian
My teaching background is almost 40yrs teaching classes in primary, secondary and tertiary education sectors, in many subjects, but especially English. I teach academic skills to university, further education and college students wanting to improve their academic English. I am also qualified to teach students with English as an additional language, literacy difficulties and/or special education needs needs.

Review of student work for improvement of university level academic skills. For EAL students: Explicit physical identification of the placement and movement of the articulators improving pronunciation & articulation through approximation of familiar sounds from your first language / dialect. Then we move to strategies for unfamiliar sounds / phonemes focusing on the most common words used in spoken English before addressing less frequently spoken words. I use the international phonetic alphabet (IPA) and articulation quadrangles to identify similar and unfamiliar sounds / phonemes between the languages and develop practice words lists and sentences based on these principles: and practice them repeatedly.
