About Claire

Hi, I’m Claire! I’m a native Traditional Chinese speaker from Taiwan, currently living in Sydney, Australia. I grew up fully immersed in Mandarin Chinese, learning through the zhuyin (bopomofo) system. While I don’t hold formal teaching certifications, I have a solid language foundation and a deep understanding of how Chinese is used in daily life. Back in Taiwan, I studied international business for two years. I’m now on a gap year in Australia, preparing to pursue a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Living in a multicultural environment has given me greater insight into the challenges of learning a new language—and the importance of kindness, patience, and encouragement in the process. I’ve spent a lot of time helping my young niece learn Chinese, through picture books, games, and everyday conversation. That experience has helped me become a calm, clear, and supportive tutor, especially for beginners. If you’re looking for someone who can help you learn Traditional Chinese in a relaxed and friendly way—while also introducing you to Taiwanese culture—I’d love to be part of your learning journey!

About the lesson

My lessons are designed to be relaxed, practical, and tailored to your needs. Whether you’re a complete beginner, a young learner, or someone looking to improve your speaking skills, I will guide you step by step with patience and encouragement.

I often use real-life topics, simple conversations, and fun materials like stories, songs or everyday objects to help you learn naturally and enjoyably. If you’re interested, I can also introduce Taiwanese culture and teach you zhuyin (the phonetic system used in Taiwan).

A typical class is around 50–60 minutes. During the lesson, we’ll practise speaking, listening, reading, or whatever area you want to focus on. I’ll adjust the content based on your level and goals, so you never feel lost or bored.

While I don’t have formal teaching certifications, I grew up in Taiwan using Traditional Chinese and zhuyin. I’ve spent a lot of time helping my young niece learn Chinese, and that experience taught me how to explain things clearly, and how to make beginners feel safe, confident, and supported.

My lessons are suitable for:
• Absolute beginners or self-learners who want structured guidance
• Children and young learners (age 5+)
• Adults who want to learn Traditional Chinese for travel, conversation or culture
• Learners interested in Taiwanese expressions and everyday usage
