About Dylan

Playing guitar has been my one true passion in life since I was 11 years old. I’ve played in several bands (shameless plug: I’m in one now called The Hails and we have over 500k monthly listeners on Spotify -check us out! :)) been on multiple tours across the country, and have taught countless students of all ages and skill levels. Many of them have gone on to start bands of their own and been admitted to some pretty great music schools. My ultimate goal is to ignite the same passion I have for music in other people, because playing music has been the most special and rewarding experience of my life.

About the lesson

Hey there! My approach to teaching depends on the student. One thing I’ve learned from teaching guitar for over 5 years is that everyone learns differently, and I believe the only way to teach anything successfully is to adjust each lesson to each individual. Beginners, for example, tend to get inundated with boring exercises and music theory lessons. While these are important to know, I believe lessons should always be about the MUSIC first. Playing guitar should be fun, which is why I will always focus on teaching beginners music they know and like. From there, I like to “reverse engineer” the song with the student and look at all the fundamentals exemplified in the song. For intermediate/advanced players, I realize there tends to be a lot of frustration around “plateauing” or feeling like you’ve hit a wall with your playing and can’t progress any further. As someone who struggled with this myself, I’ve found several ways to get beyond that and rediscover the instrument. Whatever your age or skill level, I look forward to sharing my passion and knowledge for the guitar and music and having a blast doing it!
