About Ruth
I'm currently a third year Politics Philosophy and Economics student at the University of York. I am an enthusiastic, dedicated 20 year old, who loves to get the best out of students. I believe that the most important element of tutoring is engagement, enabling students to think for themselves and find solutions independently by building confidence. At university, I am women's captain of the university fencing team, and am on the committee for the debating society. I also love the arts, enjoying calligraphy and drawing and have taught both flute and drama to young children for the last 5 years.

I have over 5 years of tutoring experience, teaching all the way from KS2 to GCSE in both maths and english.
My approach towards tutoring is all about giving both prepared and structured lessons, but also to be able to change and adapt based on what a student needs and wants to learn that lesson. I firmly believe in addressing gaps in learning as soon as they come up, and ensuring that foundational skills are solidified in order to tackle more advanced challenges. I aim to make my lessons as engaging as possible as I think that the only true way for a student to learn is for them to get hands on and stuck into tackling practical questions themselves.
