About Christiaan
My name is Christiaan and I study Mechanical Engineering. Throughout school as well as my first 2 years in Engineering, I've always focused on having an intuitive understanding of math and science rather than just knowing the 'recipe' for solving the problem. This approach to learning has allowed me to solve difficult and unfamiliar problems in tests because I don't only rely on memorizing patterns in the work. As a student in both school and university, I have longed for a teaching style that accommodates this type of learner. My desire is to make tutoring available for students who want to develop real problem-solving skills instead of memorizing an endless amount of patterns.

I like to help students to have an intuitive understanding of how to solve problems and I encourage asking lots of question, even if they are not completely relevant to the current topic. As an engineering student I have learned that it is important to explore many different paths of thinking so that you can identify what works and what doesn't. In a typical lesson you will be expected to come with at least one question about a topic that you struggle to grasp. From there I will explain the basic concept as intuitively as possible and you will be free to ask questions until it makes sense. Then we will work through some example problems together were I will attempt to guide your thought process to the solution rather than just telling you what to do. I am proficient in both English and Afrikaans and provide service for students from gr8 to gr12
