About Jacob
Hi! I’m Jacob, a wildlife ecologist with a passion for learning, teaching, and the outdoors. I have a degree in Physical Geography and an MSc in Ecological Restoration, and I’ve spent the past several years working in conservation and with First Nations.
I love helping students understand challenging concepts by making them practical, relatable, and easier to break down. Whether you’re struggling with a specific topic, preparing for an exam, or looking to build your confidence in a subject, I’ll work with you to find an approach that works for you.
Outside of work, you’ll usually find me hiking, exploring the mountains, or reading. I’m excited to help make learning a little less intimidating and hopefully a lot more interesting!

My approach is student-centred, practical, and focused on building confidence. I break complex concepts into manageable pieces, use real-world examples and visuals, and encourage students to work through problems rather than simply providing answers.
This first meeting begins by identifying the student’s goals and reviewing areas of difficulty. Following lessons go through concept instruction, guided practice, and discussion. I finish by reviewing key takeaways and next steps.
What sets me apart is my combination of academic training and hands-on professional experience in ecology, conservation, GIS, and environmental science. I bring real-world examples into lessons to help students understand how concepts are applied beyond the classroom.
I primarily tutor undergraduate students in geography, biology, ecology, environmental science, conservation, GIS/data analysis, field methods, and research design, from introductory to advanced levels.
**Please note I do not have ESRI products but do operate in QGIS. I can still assist with ESRI products in screen sharing mode**
