About Matthew

My experience in tutoring started when students around me in my classes began asking me questions, this really developed into my A levels where in my spare time I would be teaching sections of my class and others content that the teachers were struggling to make clear themselves. This developed over my sixth form years and in the run up to the exams I would tutor small groups of my peers in Maths and Physics. After our exams that year I had a few of my classmates tell me there were questions that they had done a few weeks prior with me and so now knew how to do, I never knew how much impact I had, but I was proud of having some.
This developed after my A levels ended, I began tutoring my sister as she began hers and I decided it was a role and task I actively enjoyed pursuing, and as such began researching and moving into the world of professional tutoring.
Outside of tutoring academically, I am a swimming coach for my local swimming team as well as a swimmer for them myself, I have been doing that for the last 4 years, so overall I have a good background in nurturing people up to their potential.
My A level results were all A* for Edexcel Maths and AQA Physics and Chemistry and my GCSE results came as three Grade 9s, 6 Grade 8s and a Grade 7. Most recently for my personal credentials, I accepted a place at Imperial College, London for a Masters in Mechanical Engineering.

About the lesson

All of my lessons are online, I make use of zoom and the various features it can provide. I never use a standardized teaching method, each student differs from the last, so my teaching ought to also.
I like to have a quick chat with my students before we start, to set out what we are really aiming for in our lessons, whether that's totally going through a topic step by step or if it is just brushing up the edges for the really top grades. This way I'm able to properly accommodate for each individual student. Then I will make the most of all the resources at my disposal in order to find the most fun, engaging and interactive way for them to work through the content, with the aim for me to guide them to their own understanding.
I am patient with students and happy to repeat topics or find new approaches should that need to be catered for.
Above all, my style of teaching is that I don't want to just state the information, I want the student to be able to find the correct conclusion whilst being guided by me, so they both understand how they got there, and are emboldened by the fact that it was them who got themselves there.
