About Hamish
Originally from regional South Australia, I picked up the guitar at age eight and havn’t put it down since. Inspired early on by bands like John Butler Trio, The Living End, and Pendulum, I spent my school years playing as much as possible and jumping at every chance to perform.
In my early twenties, I fell down the rabbit hole of African American music traditions, which led me to study Jazz and Improvisation at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. There, I trained with some of Australia’s leading jazz musicians, including Stephen Magnusson, Fran Swinn, Christopher Hale, Andrea Keller, Gian Slater, and Jordan Murray, while developing my voice as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter.
Since graduating in 2024, I have been performing regularly around Melbourne as both a solo artist and collaborator. I've worked with a range of artists including Mols, Anthony Probyn, Sonali Wijetunga, Brad Bellard, and Brandon Appleby (Bhive Sound Space).
