About Serena
Hi, I'm Serena! I earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Education (B.S.) from Temple University in Philadelphia — a large respected research university with a strong computer science program embedded in one of America's most dynamic and growing technology corridors. Philadelphia's booming tech scene gave me a genuinely current understanding of what coding skills employers and universities actually value most. I have 5 years teaching coding to K-12 and college entry-level students through online one-on-one sessions. My "weekly coding challenge" addition keeps students actively coding between sessions rather than only during them — and students who code consistently between lessons improve at roughly three times the speed of those who only code during sessions. One student solved his weekly challenge while waiting for his school bus every morning and told me it became the best part of his daily routine. I have guided beginners through first Python programs, supported AP Computer Science students, helped students build portfolio projects, and helped college freshmen tackle Java and data structures. I was recognized with the Best Comprehensive Coding Educator Award from a US platform for outstanding student coverage and consistent improvement scores.
