About Beth

I've always been passionate about writing. I majored in English in college and while I was an actress in New York, I wrote stand-up and sketch comedy. However, when I moved to Los Angeles, I took a television writing class and realized that all I wanted to do was write full time. I worked as a television writer and producer for a number of years and then switched to copywriting. Along the way, I've used my skills to help friends and clients with their college application essays, and I'm proud to say I've had 100% success with this, including Barcelona School of the Arts, Trinity College in Dublin, and Columbia University School of Law. Writing is a joy for me, and I strive to make our working together a fun, exciting, and positive experience. I'll never shut down your ideas, because there are no bad ideas, I'll only build on them. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!

About the lesson

If the thought of writing a college application, a book, an essay, or a script fills you with dread and paralyzing fear, I totally get it. It's hard to start with a blank page, and writing about yourself is even harder. That's where my experience as both a television writer and advertising copywriter is so invaluable. I approach everything from a story perspective. If you have a story for your screenplay or book already in mind, we'll break it into manageable steps, such as creating a beat sheet, an outline, and then the actual writing. If you're working on your college essay, we'll work together to craft your life experience into an interesting, meaningful story (because everyone is unique and interesting). At the same time, we'll find powerful ways to illustrate how your skills and experience are ideal for the college or university. That's the advertising part. We'll discuss how you are the "product," and why the "consumer" (the college/university) would be lucky to have you.

I'm a firm believer that the process of writing should NEVER be laborious - it should be enjoyable. We'll spend a great deal of time talking, and having you share stories about yourself or your inspiration for your project. That will help me start to identify the building blocks, and we'll go from there. I will never write for you - I'll only guide you to discover and develop your story with constructive insights, comments and edits. This final product will completely be in your voice, it will be something to be proud of, and it will be memorable for your reader. Let's do this!

Where do I start? Beth was incredible from start to finish. She served as the guide for my daughter's motivation statement to art school in Spain. This was not your average college essay. The work requirement was tight - 300 words - but Beth helped my daughter whittle down her thoughts into something fantastic. Beth also helped my daughter with her CV/resume.
